About the organisation
Hospice Volunteers South Tas Inc supports people of any age, living with, and affected by, terminal illness by offering free, non-religious, compassionate support at home, in the community and in hospital.
How we help
We help people to live their best quality life with a caring volunteer companion.
Everyone’s story is unique. We tailor our care around what each person tells us is important to them.
Our volunteers visit regularly (usually once a week). Volunteers are well-trained and skilled at ‘tuning in’.
Volunteers can also help with shopping, getting to appointments or keeping up with social activities, to give family carer some time out or ‘respite’.
Our volunteers are not nurses, or personal carers. They are companions, who can be there right from the start when a person finds out they have an illness, and throughout their care.
Hospice Volunteers South Tas recently launched a social media brand 'Palhelp' to extend our reach to people living in the community who are not yet connected with palliative support services.
Our team of compassionate volunteers provides companionship at home, in the community, or in healthcare settings. Palhelp Staff also offer support for advance care planning and volunteers are able to help record life stories.
Palhelp is an initiative of Hospice Volunteers South Tas Inc, a charity registered with the ACNC. Our work is supported by the Tasmanian Government. We work closely with Tasmanian Health Service and Department of Health services to provide Palliative Care support to members of the community.
